Iconic Photographer James Barnor to mark 95th Birthday with ‘The James Barnor 95 Festival’

Legendary Ghanaian photographer, James Barnor is set to celebrate his 95th birthday with a remarkable event dubbed, “The James Barnor 95 Festival”.

The celebrated photographer will turn 95 On June 6, 2024, and to celebrate this milestone, Uncle James will be travelling back to Ghana. There is going to be a packed programme of events including exhibitions, screenings and concerts to celebrate the most famous photographer on this momentous occasion.

The Festival, which begins in May and end on August 30th is a celebration of cultural heritage and artistic innovation. While paying homage to the iconic photographer, it also aims for a long-term impact on the Ghanaian arts and culture scene.
The artist and his gallery have launched a call to creatives to delve into James Barnor’s archive and reinterpret it.
Conceived as an open dialogue between Barnor’s body of work and the contemporary Ghanaian cultural scene,
the festival will unfold across a network of art venues, institutions and outdoor spaces.
Through contemporary artists and curators as well as interactive audience participation, the festival aims
to spark new conversations and perspectives on the work and legacy of James Barnor.
Monographic exhibitions together with a multi-disciplinary program of concerts, screenings, discussions, workshops and open-air installations will invite a brand new audience for Ghana’s greatest living photographer.
