Tony Amaniampong aka Toni Amani is a singer-songwriter from Ghana with a voice (which is a highlight of his skill next to songwriting by the way) many may never get enough of. He is based in Alexandria, VA in the USA and has his latest single ‘Lovin You’ – a love inspired song featuring fellow countryman, Reynolds the Gentleman who also produced the song – out now, next to his line of previous Afrobeat and Afro-soul releases: ‘Give’ (2018); ‘Savage’ (2019); ‘You Are’ (2019) and ‘Do For You’ (2021).

With much promise to offer, we host the budding crooner on today’s edition of Ameyaw Meets to help project his soulful personality, style of music and next move to Ghanaian audiences, as he formally re-introduces us to his musical alter ego, Toni Amani.

  1. Hello Tony. Let’s begin with a good old introduction, shall we?

Yes. Hello, my name is Tony Amani. I am an Afrobeat/Afros-oul musician and songwriter. Fun fact about me – I play about three instruments trumpet, guitar and piano. Music has always been a part of my life and upbringing and has always been my passion.

  1. How would you describe your style of music and who inspired it?

I would say my style is more in the realm of Afrobeat/Afro-soul which was inspired by Davido, Wizkid. My other influences that inspired me as well have been Stonebwoy, Kelvyn Boy, Kojo Antwi, Kwabena Kwabena, Lauryn Hill, Bob Marley, John Legend and many others.

  1. ‘Lovin You’ is your new-new. What’s the concept behind it and how did your collaboration with Reynolds the Gentleman come about?

The concept behind this song is the idea of understanding the person that is being loved. Sometimes in life we come to a crossroad in trying to understand our feelings and emotions with that person that we have come to know and love and we reflect do we really love them or is it an infatuation of love.

And when we realize how much that person means to us and has positively impacted our lives there is no way we can be without them. In terms Reynolds the Gentleman, we have talked for a while about collaborating together and knew it was only a matter of time for the link up to happen. He happened to be in the US right around the time I had just finished writing a majority of the song so once he was here, we went straight to the studio and created it.

  1. What is your secret to maintaining such a charming voice?

There is no real secret to my voice, I stay true to myself sing with passion.

  1. You have experienced the best of both worlds. Has that enhanced your art? How?

Yes, I believe that experience always brings out great music. And with that the more things I experience things in life it helps bring life to great music.

  1. If you could feature a Ghanaian artist of your choice right now, who will it be?

I would definitely love to collaborate with Kwabena Kwabena on a song I feel I would learn a lot from him.

  1. Beyond music and songwriting, do you have anything else going?

As of right now I’m working on getting an EP together for my next release and continue to put out great content.

  1. Lastly, with your new single out and about, what is your next big move?

My next move is to get it my music out there globally in terms of marketing and also to get the music to major labels.
