Maltiti Foundation, a non-governmental organisation has organized a one-day HIV/AIDS and Prostate Cancer Screening for residents of Salaga in the Northern region.
The organization together with its able-partners, Reprocan Ghana screened hundreds of women and men of general health conditions. Students of the two major Senior High Schools in the Municipality were also screened. The team eventually narrowed the screening down to HIV test and counselling, Breast cancer, Malaria, Diabetes and prostate cancer in men above 45 years.
The team also visited two senior high schools; Salaga senior high school and Ahmadiya senior high school all in East Gonja Municipality where they entreated young girls to periodically check for lumps in their breasts and general health issues.
As often demanded by tradition, they paid a courtesy call on Kpembe Wura, the chief of the community and enlightened him about the foundation’s activities. The chief endorsed the good works of the foundation by also participating in the screening exercise and lauding the idea.
Activities for the day were summed up with a football match to strengthen the bond of unity among the people of the community.
According to the management of the foundation, many people benefited from this year’s exercise with patients who got tested positive given prescriptions. They also entreated the general public to make health checks a part of their lifestyle.
Others were also referred to the Tamale teaching hospital for advanced treatment. Beneficiaries subsequently extended their appreciation to the team for their kindheartedness.
The annual event is aimed at empowering women and encouraging men to take health checks seriously.
The charity event returns next year with a line up of activities to help the less-privileged in society.]]>
