Although the stadium is not known for hosting successful concerts, the case has been different whenever a reggae/dancehall star performs there. Jamaican reggae star Sizzla Kalonji had a well attended event and good performance at the stadium during Ghana’s 53rd Independence Day anniversary celebrations in 2010. And even Samini has enjoyed some relative success performing at the stadium although on a smaller scale.
Will the Mavado concert break the jinx at the Accra sports stadium for good and pave the way for Ghanaians to find an alternative venue for mega concerts? We surely shall find out on October 1.
