McGill University’s African Student Society (MASS) is preparing to host the very first African Development Convention in Canada. The three-day AstraQomsponsored convention will highlight key ingredients that have and continue to contribute to Africa’s surprisingly fast development. With 6 out of 10 fastest growing economies being located in Sub-Saharan Africa, the continent is becoming extremely attractive to many investors.

The highly anticipated event is scheduled to take place at the University’s downtown campus on February 11th, 12th and 15th. Facil Tesfaye, TMS Ruge, Dr. Marguerite Mendell and Nicholas Barber are some of many speakers who will be in attendance.

“This generation is crucial for Africa. 6 out of the 10 fastest growing economies are located in Sub-Saharan Africa. However, African development is complex and multi-dimensional. Many different aspects and fields determine how the development will be translated to the people. Good Governance, Investment, and Health development are among the very important factors that have to collaborate for the increasingly high economic growth in Africa to finally result in real change. This convention, encompassing events on February 11th, 12th, and 15th will try to make us think about development more critically and make it more clear as to what we can do when we leave university.” George Frederic Kibala Bauer, MASS VP Education, exclusively told Afri-Culture.

Some of the primary goals of the convention are to; encourage this generation to get involved with African affairs and developments; invite and attract a diverse group of students who are passionate about Africa and to inspire this generation to think about how they wish to contribute to Africa’s developments once they’ve completed their studies.
