Mr Drew Rejects Being labeled as “Ghana’s Chris Brown”

In the world of music, comparisons between artists are not uncommon. However, it is essential to acknowledge and respect the unique talents and individuality of each performer.

Ghanaian highlife and afrobeats music star and dancer, Andrew Nii Commey, popularly known as Mr Drew, has recently expressed his preference for people to stop comparing him to the renowned R&B singer, Chris Brown.

In an effort to carve his own artistic path and establish his identity, the ‘S3k3’ hitmaker firmly asserted that he should not be confined to the shadow of another artist.

In a recent interview with Kojo Manuel on YFM, the energetic crooner made it known that he will prefer to be addressed as Mr Drew and not a Ghanaian version of any individual.

He emphasized by saying, “Lots of people call me Ghana’s Chris Brown but for me, I prefer they stop. I just want to be Mr. Drew and that’s all.”

Drew further noted that being associated with Chris Brown comes with a lot of pressure and it could push him towards certain things he actively tries to stay away from.

The dancer, however acknowledged the ‘SuperHero’ singer as a great personality and artist who has had an impact on his own career and his global influence. He also emphasised that he was focused on carving out his own unique identity and establishing himself on a large scale.

He explained by saying that,  “Chris Brown has already established himself in the world and on a very large scale, so that’s what I’m also trying to do for my career. But don’t call me Ghana’s Chris Brown. I want to be known as Mr. Drew.”
