The Application, which currently has more than 50,000 subscribers, allows users to access music from Ghana and the Diaspora at a cost of GH¢0.20 per day, GH¢0.70 per week and GH¢2.50 per month.

Artistes signed onto the Application are entitled to 70 per cent of all payments made while Aftown is entitled to the remaining 30 per cent.

The subscription is, however, limited to MTN users only.

Speaking at the launch, Product & Services Senior Manager at MTN, Bless Sefenu Agordjo, said the deal with aftown is geared toward supporting indigenous businesses to grow as well as help young entrepreneurs who want to help with the growth of the creative arts industry in Ghana.

“Our partnership with aftown emanates from our quest for indigenous Ghanaian businesses to grow within our ecosystem and within Ghana where we operate. After vibrant young indigenous young entrepreneurs who want to help the creative arts industry as we have been doing in the past.”

He added that the initiative does not only allow its customers easy accessibility but also affordability on the network’s “4G system which brings speed and easy access to services and products.”

Head of Tech at aftown, Jefferson Seneadza, said the partnership will break the barrier of music enthusiasts being able to stream not only via Mobile Money but with airtime with little.

To him, aftown is not only about streaming but, “for Ghanaian music lovers and even for the artistes because it’s focusing on what we’ve believed which is bringing the artistes and the music you love much closer.”
