My parents were initially hesitant to endorse my dancing career – Afronitaaa discloses

DWP Academy member and International choreographer, Danita Akosua Yeboah, otherwise known as Afronitaaa, has revealed that her parents were initially not so supportive of her dancing career due to certain perceptions they had about dancers.

According to the dancer, her parents were initially hesitant to endorse her of becoming a dancer. However, with determination, dedication, and the power of communication, Afronitaa successfully transformed her parents’ perceptions and won their unwavering support and for her aspiration.

The Award-winning dance instructor, to a greater extent divulged that she embarked on a mission to prove her parents wrong by taking her
academics seriously while combining dance.

Speaking with Delores Frimpong-Manso, popularly known as Delay, on the Delay Show, Afronitaa made known that her passion for dance was evident from an early age, but her parents harbored certain misconceptions about the art form. ”Okay, initially they were not so supportive because parents have some kind of perception that dancers are street kids and all that especially back in the day. With my parents, their concern was if I go into this dance thing what will become of my academics.”

She continued, ‘‘ when I realised that was what I needed to convince them.I was like I’ll do everything to make my grades the best,”
