However, this has led to many of them facing backlash and criticism from the public. This trend shows how, as elections near, the mix of fame and politics can lead to strong reactions, with fans and critics often clashing over these endorsements.

Contemporary gospel singer and songwriter, Nicholas Omane Acheampong has expressed his dissatisfaction regarding the insults directed at him for endorsing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party in the lead-up to the December 7 elections.

When questioned about the difficulties he has encountered as a gospel musician who has publicly declared his political views, he remarked, “I am enduring significant challenges in the form of insults, as anyone who engages in politics in this country must be prepared for such backlash.

“People will criticize you simply because you do not align with their views. Almost everyone from the NDC is hurling insults at me for supporting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as if he is not a Ghanaian.”

The ‘Tabitakum’ hitmaker further asserted that if John Mahama were to regain power, it would lead Ghana into a dire situation.

“I have a good reason for supporting him because I know for sure that if we don’t take action and we relax because we are celebrities and think we need to protect our brands, and we sit down quietly, and former President Mahama is voted into power again in this country, the first thing he will do is cancel the free senior high school policy,” he added.
