Operating A Business In Ghana Is Very Tough – James Gardiner Reflects on Challenges, Clarifies Birthday Post
In the world of entertainment, success often comes with challenges that are not always visible to the public eye. For renowned Ghanaian actor,James Gardiner, a social media post on his birthday on May 16, 2024, opened a window into the personal struggles he’s faced in his entrepreneurial journey.
What seemed like a simple birthday reflection quickly became a topic of widespread discussion, as fans and followers tried to decode the underlying message. Now, James hast set the record straight, offering a glimpse into the real story behind his birthday post and also shedding light on the difficulties of running a business in Ghana.
The talented thespian in a candid interview with Hitz FM’s Doreen Avio, explained that the post wasn’t intended to accuse anyone but was simply an expression of frustration over the lack of support for his pub from people he had known for a long time and are close to him.
James expressed his disappointment about the fact that those who helped him weren’t family or the ones closest to him.
In his words, “I wasn’t calling people out; I was just complaining about people not supporting my pub. I’ve realized that for a business to thrive, it’s not about family but about strangers. I just wished those close to me and who have a good relationship with me would be the ones to show me love.”
The movie star reflected on his efforts, saying that despite doing everything possible to promote his pub, the results were disappointing, which led to the social media post on his birthday.

“This was me just lamenting and venting. I can’t call everybody because I did everything I could. We invited people, bloggers but there’s only so much you can do before you run out of gas. I was just reflecting on how work has been.”
The actor, known for his roles in movies such as A Taste Of Sin, The Weekend, Glamour Girls amongst others went on to describe how challenging it is to run a business in Ghana, especially when people don’t support it. He detailed that the post was a way to release some of the pent-up emotions and also address some of the negative feedback he received.
“Opening a business here in Ghana is very tough, let alone when people don’t patronize it. It’s disheartening to invest in something and see no returns. This is our fourth year, and it’s been very tough,” Gardiner stated.
“My friends were surprised because I don’t usually talk about these things, and I felt like I had been keeping a lot inside for too long. I just wanted to bring it out. Some people thought I was looking for sympathy, but that wasn’t the case. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but because I knew what I meant by that post, it didn’t bother me,” he narrated.
