Voted the UK’s top modern university by QS World University Rankings 2018, Oxford Brookes University is a campus university located in the beautiful and cultural city of Oxford. The School runs three campuses that are part of the university, linked by the free BROOKESbus. The Student Union and the many societies on campus help to build the close-knit but diverse and welcoming community Brookes is known for. Oxford was recently ranked in the top 100 universities in the UK (Complete University Guide 2020) moving up 15 spots compared to 2019.

Oxford Brookes bursary scheme is available to all full-time UK students on £9,250 courses whose starting year of study is 2019-20 with a household yearly income below £35,000. The bursary amount provided is on a sliding scale (takes into consideration on household income as well as the year in which you join your course) from £500-£1,000 for year one, and from £1,000 to £2,000 for years two and three respectively. Accommodation

Students can choose from a different hall options both on campus and nearby with a large number of university owned. The majority of halls are self-catered with on average six bedrooms per flat, with starting prices from £114 per week for a single-study bedroom with shared bathroom facilities, or from £149 per week for en suite accommodation for 2019/20 academic session. There are also studio and family flats available.

The Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2018 named Oxford Brookes the number one university in the UK for teaching and research, with 11 faculty members having been awarded the National Teaching Fellows, by far the most prestigious awards in UK higher education teaching.

Graduate outcomes

According to HESA 2018, Brookes has one of the best graduate outcomes in the UK, with over 95% of Oxford Brookes students in employment or further study within six months of graduating. Brookes also provides students career support throughout their

time at university to ensure they can achieve their highests career goals.

The Careers Service department supports students throughout their time at Brookes. The university places great importance on industry experience, with a number of courses including practical elements which help prepare students for their chosen careers. The university has connections with a number of industries, helping to offer students work placements in reputable companies, banks, hospitals, NGOs and other organisations. The Careers Service also guide students through counselling, online resources and help with CV’s.

There is also a mentoring scheme, which helps students build longer term network with professionals in their chosen fields. Entry requirements

Every course has its own entry requirements, and applicants should consider recommendations offered by each faculty and course. That said, here are some overall entry requirements for applicants:

Prospective students need to have A-levels, the International Baccalaureate, a recognised foundation programme or equivalent qualifications from a locally accredited institution. Students who do not meet these qualifications have an opportunity to undertake one of the foundation courses offered by the university before proceeding to an undergraduate course. These include Art and Design Foundation, Computing Foundation, Foundation in Humanities, Engineering Foundation and more.

Students normally need an honour’s degree, a postgraduate diploma or an equivalent qualification from an accredited school. There is also the option of enrolling for a pre-master’s course that will best prepare them for meeting the requirements for postgraduate study. Completing and passing a pre-master’s course, where one obtains the requisite marks, provides a guaranteed pathway to a master’s course.

English Language Requirements

International applicants who do not have English as a first language will need to demonstrate English language aptitude. Of course, these vary according to course, but most undergraduate courses require an IELTS score of 6.0, ( 6.0 in reading and writing and 5.5 in listening and speaking). For postgraduate courses, applicants need a score of 6.0 – 7.0 ( 6.0 in reading and writing and 5.5 in listening and speaking). Alternative qualifications such as IELTS are also accepted.
