<![CDATA[Actress, Yvonne Okoro’s self-produced movie ‘Contract’, was premiered at the National Theatre in Accra on Friday night with a massive turn out for what could be best described as the romantic comedy of the Christmas season. Present at the premiere were the cast of the movie including Yvonne Okoro herself, South African actor Homla Dandala and Nigeria’s Benjamin Joseph. The movie tells the story of a successful 40 year-old businessman and sworn bachelor for life, Peter Puplampo (Homla Dandala), who despite his mother’s persistent attempts to find him a woman, sticks to his rule of non-committal casual dates, freedom and being in control of his life, until the desire to have a child arises. In his quest to find the woman who will take his money, have his child and disappear, Peter begins a roller-coaster, contracted relationship with Abena Boateng (Yvonne Okoro), a crude but clever local girl who is anything but impressed with Peter’s affluence. With a clear definitive contract from his lawyer outlining the dos and don’ts of bearing Peter Puplampo’s child, these two opposites must exercise every ounce of willpower not to kill each other until the child is born. The romantic comedy was directed by award-winning Ghanaian Director Shirley Frimpong-Manso. As much as I enjoyed watching the audience laugh and clap at the end of the movie, I can’t help but point out that the movie was ‘incomplete’. As the movie unfolded, we found out that the reason why Abena went into the ‘contract’ was to help take care of her cancer stricken younger sister. However apart from a casual visit to the hospital, we didn’t find out what happened to her, whether she died or even got her surgery done. At least Abena should have made Peter know of her sister, for whom she went into the contract in the first place. Yes, I love logical happy endings..haha! Also it amazed me as to how the doctors could find out Abena’s hymen was still in touch in spite of her pregnancy but couldn’t find out from their scan the number of babies, Abena would give birth to; in fact they gave the wrong number several months deep into the pregnancy. Logic, I say..logic I say!!! ]]>
