Rotaract Club of Adentan, a community service club for young professionals, is teaming up with Alliance Francaise, to organise a charity concert dubbed ‘Otinibi Library Concert’. The concert, scheduled to take place at Alliance Francaise on November 30, 2012, is aimed at raising funds to complete a 50-seater library for Otinibi D/A Basic School. The library project, currently at the roofing stage, is one of many charity projects being undertaken by Rotaract Club of Adentan.
Alliance Francaise, a regular organiser of cultural programmes, including musical concerts, is excited about the prospects for the library, when completed, to contribute to improving literacy in the Otinibi Township, hence the decision to support Rotaract Club of Adentan. The Head of Communications and Marketing at Alliance Francaise, Cynthia Banitamina said: “we’re always happy to support youth-driven initiatives that contribute to improving lives. Rotaract Club of Adentan has an amazing track record of service to communities, especially in the area of literacy, and it’s great to work with them for the benefit of children from this deprived school.”
A wide variety of artistes have already signed up to perform for free, in support of this worthy cause, including; Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Praye, Ofie Kudjoe, Dela Botri and Kyekyeku. With organisers working to increase the number of artistes on the bill, patrons, who will pay a gate fee of GHC10, are guaranteed a night of great performances from artistes performing different genres of music. All proceeds from the night will go to support the completion of the library.
The President of the Rotaract Club of Adentan, Stephen Ampadu explained the motivation of his club and its members: “now more than ever, young people across the world are being asked to step forward and take greater responsibility for the development of their communities. Being part of an international network of Rotary-sponsored clubs, members of Rotaract Club of Adentan feel obliged and are committed to contributing our skills and resources towards making the world a better place. The library for Otinibi Basic School is just one of many things that our club is doing in this regard.” He expressed the hope that young people will turn up in their numbers to have a night of great entertainment and contribute to the library project in the process.
Stephen Ampadu also encouraged young people to take greater interest in community service because it helps hone their professional and leadership skills, in addition to making a difference in their communities. Chartered in 2001, Rotaract Club of Adentan has 54 members and holds weekly meetings at Airport View Hotel on Thursdays at 6:30 pm. Young men and women, between the ages of 18 and 30, with an interest in community service are invited to attend meetings of the club.
