Actress and entrepreneur, Beverly Afaglo has shared her reasons for completely abandoning Facebook, citing the overwhelming negativity and insults she faced on the social media platform.

Dealing with Dry Eyes

In an interview on Adom TV’s Okukuseku with Emelia Brobbey, Beverly recounted the cyberbullying she experienced after a GoFundMe campaign was created to support her in rebuilding her life following a devastating house fire. She described the traumatic night when she lost everything and was unable to salvage any belongings due to safety reasons.

Despite the hardships, the actress expressed gratitude that her children were safe and stayed with her sister that night. Although she initially relied on her supportive family, Beverly realized that rebuilding would be difficult and agreed to  an idea by Yvonne Nelson. Yvonne Nelson suggested the idea of a GoFundMe campaign to help Beverly rebuild, which she eventually agreed to.

However, the campaign resulted in unexpected backlash, with Beverly receiving numerous insults and attacks, particularly on Facebook.

The intensity of the negativity prompted her decision to completely stop using the platform. Since the incident in August 2021, Beverly has prioritized her peace of mind by refraining from returning to Facebook.

“People insulted me on Instagram and other apps, but Facebook was the worst. I didn’t know where the attacks were coming from because imagine I had lost everything and I was still being targeted,” she noted.
