“Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect,” the Ghana Football Association (GFA) declared in an official statement.

The Black Stars lost their opening game 2-1 against Cape Verde and ended up with two points from Group B after tying 2-2 with both Egypt and Mozambique.

Ghana was eliminated on Tuesday after the results did not go in their favour, despite having remote prospects of moving on as one of the four teams in third place.

Hughton was named head coach of Ghana Black Stars in February last year.
