According to a recent report by the Ghana AIDS Commission, 50 individuals in Ghana contract HIV/AIDS every 24 hours.
Ghana has been actively combating this epidemic since the 1980s and has made significant progress. However, the latest report highlights the need for increased awareness and efforts to meet the established targets and goals.
The data released during the announcement of the 2023 national and sub-national HIV/AIDS estimates and projections revealed that there are currently 334,095 people living with HIV/AIDS in the country, including 17,550 children under the age of 15.
The majority of new infections were found among individuals aged 15 to 49, the economically active population. The report also indicated that there were 17,774 new HIV infections, with 1,698 occurring in children under 15 and 16,076 in adults over 15.
Although there has been a decline in new infections, AIDS-related deaths, and HIV prevalence, it is still not enough to achieve the desired goals and targets.
