<![CDATA[9flix TV, an African video technology company has launched its TV site www.9flix.com. The new online destination will be dedicated to showing mostly African TV shows and TV programs. The African entertainment industry is rising and with faster and cheaper Internet connections, video consumption on the web and on mobile devices has increased rapidly. Nollywood is an $800 million industry according to a 2011 forbes article and African music isn’t left too far behind. We launched 9flix because we see an untapped opportunity in African TV which is also content rich but lacks the same attention as it’s movie and music counterparts. We see a single TV market stretching from Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya to South Africa. The Internet World Stats puts the number of users in these four countries at over 70 million as at June 2012. We want to design and build a technology to provide a solution to viewers and content makers trying to reach this market. Right now, the market is fragmented and a platform that brings together the content a large number of audience enjoys, like soaps, comedy and entertainment shows from South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana would be a win-win for both the viewer and content producers. We have already built-in social sharing features and a powerful video recommendation system using a simple yet effective suggestion algorithm and we are looking forward to improving on the user experience and give users the go to destination for anything African TV. There is no doubt that Africa is emerging fast and the entertainment industry will further grow as the continent develops, so we believe now is the right time to launch such an ambitious project. A few years back, nobody imagined the industry to be where it is now. The Company: The online video project that is now 9flix was first started in 2010 as AfricaMars Media by Aliyu Daku and Khalil Muhammed. The company has a track record of building deep media technology and information analysis systems as the Technical co-founder Khalil Muhammed studied Information Engineering with years of working experience in the U.K.]]>
