Legendary Ghanaian Highlife musician/songwriter, Kwabena Nyamekye Amoo-Mensah, known by most people as  Pat Thomas, has recently shared the story behind one of his hit songs, ‘Sika Ye Mogya’, emphasizing on what inspired him to write it.

According to the multiple award-winning singer, while working on his ‘Medo Wiase’ album, his producer, requested he added another song to the album to make the songs on it 10, as the album previously contained just 9 songs.

He further disclosed that upon the request, he had no other option than to make the tenth song. After several days of thinking, he remembered a statement a manager of his used to make when going for  payments on behalf of his Band, ie ‘Sika Ye Mogya oo’ meaning, ‘Money is Blood oo’.

Pat thomas, then stated that right after the statement of his manager came in mind, he went straight to the studio, took his quitar and  recorded some  instrumentals. According to him, while recording the instrumentals, the lyrics of the songs started dropping in his mind. The legend disclosed that he never took time to pen down the lyrics of the song, as they kept dropping in his mind  while he was doing the recording.

Speaking in an interview with Roselyn Felli on the Prime Morning Show on Joy Prime TV, the songwriter explained that  ”I Never wrote the lyrics down, I just sang it. I mean, I dont know where the lyrics came from.”

The celebrated musician to a greater extent divulged that he never thought the song (Sika Ye Mogya)  will be a hit song becuase his primary focus was to rather make his song, ‘Medo Wiase’ a  hit.

” I Was surprised when ‘Sika Ye Mogya’ became a hit song because I never thought it will become a hit song like it has become. Because I was focusing on ‘Medo Wiase’ to become the hit song rather. But Sika Ye Mogya’ took after it.”
