IFC Holds 3rd Annual Edge Student Design Competition Awards Night
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, announced the winners of the Third Annual Edge Student Design Competition on October 2, 2024, during an awards and dinner night held at the Marriott Hotel in Accra.
Supported by Switzerland through the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the event celebrated innovative architectural solutions for sustainable building practices and showcased the creativity of students who aimed to design eco-friendly structures using the EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) green building standards.

This year’s competition attracted a diverse range of entries, reflecting the participants’ commitment to addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development in Ghana. The awards night featured presentations from finalists, highlighting their unique designs and approaches to energy efficiency, water conservation, and materials sustainability.
Notable speakers included Kyle Kelhofer, Senior Country Manager of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Acting Head of Cooperation for the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs,Magdalena Wuest and a Senior Advisor at the Ministry of Works and Housing, who emphasized the importance of integrating sustainability into architectural education.

The night ended with the announcement of the winners, who were awarded an all-expenses-paid trip to South Africa to attend the Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA) Green Building Convention, along with EDGE expert training, publication opportunities, and certificates. This initiative not only fosters innovation among young architects but also aims to inspire a new generation of professionals committed to sustainable practices in the built environment.
