Popular Television and Radio Presenter, Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) has stated that a lockdown is going to hurt some Ghanaians, although it is necessary to reduce the spread of the coronavirus in Ghana.

There have been calls on the President to lockdown the country as cases of the coronavirus keep increasing. However, President Akufo-Addo-Addo in a statement stated that he’s considering all other options first before a possible lockdown. Ghana has recorded 132 cases so far, 3 deaths and one recovery.

Speaking in an interview with NEWS-ONE on Wednesday, KOD stated that the poor in the country are going to be very much affected should the country be locked down.

“We live in a very free society but then again to control the spate of coronavirus, that is possibly the only option. We can’t think about a possible lockdown and not consider things like how those who live from hand to mouth would survive, where we are putting the homeless on our streets, some pharmacies and markets will definitely shut down entirely, fuelling stations will not operate (and our fuel stations are not self-service),” he said

“The only people who will have a comfortable life in such a time are the rich in our communities. It will hurt even though it’s necessary to reduce the spread,” KOD added.
