EC Disqualifies Joana Gyan Cudjoe from 2024 Parliamentary Elections Following Court Injunction

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has disqualified Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, from the 2024 elections.

This decision follows a Sekondi High Court ruling in May 2024 that placed an injunction on her candidacy due to legal disputes surrounding the legitimacy of her voter ID and NDC party card.

The court’s order prevents Joana from being recognized as the official candidate for Amenfi Central until the case concludes. In response, on October 10, 2024, the Electoral Commission’s Deputy Chairman, Samuel Tettey, informed Cudjoe of her disqualification, stressing the need to comply with the court’s directive.

The plaintiffs in the case, including Gyedu Frimpong and others, have accused Cudjoe of forging essential documents, prompting the legal challenge.

The case is still ongoing, but for now, the court’s decision remains in force, barring her from running in the upcoming election.

Joana Gyan Cudjoe, wife of Ghanaian musician Andrew of Keche fame, is a businesswoman and politician. She was selected as the NDC parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central but was disqualified from the 2024 elections due to a court injunction following allegations of forging her voter ID and party card.
