Ghana Health Service launches 5th National COVID 19 Vaccination Days Campaign

In an effort to continuously enhance the acceptance of the COVID – 19 vaccination, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) is beginning a series of National COVID 19 Vaccination Days Campaign which will start from the 14th of December, 2022 through to 18TH December, 2022 across all districts in Ghana.

At a press briefing on the 5th National COVID 19 Vaccination days campaign held on the 9th December, 2022 by the Ghana Health Service, The Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma – Aboagye stated that the vaccines as well as vaccination teams will be deployed across the country for many citizens to gain access, ‘’During this campaign period, approximately 6000 vaccination teams will be deployed across the length and breadth of the country, employing both static and close – to – client strategies to reach the unreached’, he stated.

A total number of 21,179,341 persons have received the COVID 19 vaccines as at now with 12,163,179 persons receiving at least 1 dose, 9,103,353 persons fully vaccinated and 2,645,015 persons receiving 1st booster dose under the COVID 19 vaccines data administered on 30th November, 2022.

The target age group for the vaccination is 15 years and above including pregnant women with a target number of doses of 1.46 Million.

According to the Rationale for NaCVaDs1/2, Ghana recorded its first two cases on 12THMarch, 2020, a day after the WHO declared the pandemic and started vaccination from 1st March, 2021.

In a speech read by Dr. Kwame Amponsah – Achiano, Director General – GHS, he expressed that, the vaccination process will definitely be the mainstay of the COVID 19 prevention. ‘’COVID 19 vaccines can and do protect the majority of the people from hospitalization and death, which is why as many doses need to be administered around the world as rapidly and equitably as possible’’, he stated.
