International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) is a competition in science for students who are fifteen years or younger on 31 st December of the competition year. IJSO aims to promote interest in science among school students, exposing them to problem solving, critical thinking and
INTERNATIONAL JUNIOR SCIENCE OLYMPIAD experimentation. Over the years IJSO aims to positively impact science and mathematics education at school level. IJSO is held in the first week of December of every year, in different countries. Currently around 50 member countries participate every year. The academic competitions of the IJSO includes challenging tests in topics of science, both as theory questions and practical tasks. The tests are designed to address students’ understanding of concepts, and their ability to apply concepts to the situations described in the tests. An important aim of the Olympiads is for young people to experience different cultures and to bring about interactions between students from across the world. The Olympiads thus have a potential to promote global peace and understanding. The 14th International Junior Science Olympiad takes place in the Netherlands from the 3rd to the 12th of December and is organised by the IJSO 2017 Foundation with the theme; ’WATER AND SUSTAINABILITY’. The Ministry of Culture, Science and Education, Netherlands has invited Ghana to participate in this year’s IJSO. Ghana has not been participating in this competition since 2012 due to lack of funds but this year an organization called CENTER FOR NATURAL SCIENCE OLYMPIAD with the support from the GHANA EDUCATION SERVICE has put in effort to revamp the participation of Ghana in this competition and has therefore gone through processes to select six(6) brilliant students to represent Ghana at the competition. We thereby call on individuals and organizations to help support this educative event.
