Self-exclusion from gambling: can it be avoided?

Published

on

online gambling

There are repeated reports in the international press about problem gamblers who are said to have been able to play in online casinos despite self-exclusion from gambling. A report last week on Sky News deals with the topic. Problem gamblers are often excluded from gambling because they cannot control their gambling behavior.

How Does Self-exclusion From Gambling Work in the UK?

In the UK, problem gamblers who want to stop gambling can register with Gamstop, an industry-funded online self-exclusion program, and be banned from gambling at online casinos for at least six months. This ban cannot be lifted until the ban period has expired and players must contact Gamstop by telephone after the period has expired.

Gambling operators in the UK only receive an online license from the UK Gambling Commission if they agree to participate in the Gamstop self-exclusion system, like at betnuvo casino.

Played in the Online Casino Despite Self-ban by GamStop

Sky News spoke to a problem gambler who is said to have played at online casinos in the UK despite being banned.

According to Sky News, “Luis” (player’s fictitious name) registered for self-exclusion with Gamstop in 2019, but managed to reopen his dormant account with William Hill in 2022. This was not recognized by the Gamstop system, even though he had only changed his address. But his unusual last name remained the same.

After reopening his account, he lost £2,000 on William Hill within a few days.

Self-Exclusion in the UK

Problem gamblers in the UK can exclude themselves from gambling by submitting a blocking request to the GamStop blocking system. The minimum blocking period for self-blocking is three months.

The GamStop blocking system includes the following gambling areas:

  • Online gambling games licensed in The UK (virtual slot games, online casino games and online poker).

However, a problem for problem gamblers based in The UK could be that the GamStop ban only applies to gambling providers licensed in The UK. Online gamblers have the opportunity to register at online casinos that do not have a British license, but where games can be played from The UK.

Nobody Seems to Feel Responsible

Brian Chappell, the founder of the consumer group Justice for Punters, contacted the British Gambling Commission about Luis ‘ case without success.

“Huge improvements are needed in all of their processes to protect people from harm caused by gambling and to prevent something like this from happening again… There is so much to be learned from this case because the current system allows people like Luis to play every day let us down, and that is simply not acceptable.”

– Brian Chappell, Justice for Punters, Sky News

William Hill also claimed that it was not responsible for Luis not being identified as someone who had excluded himself.

Gamblers’ advocates in the UK hope that the new White Paper , the government’s proposed law to overhaul gambling , will introduce tougher rules for the industry to adapt it to the digital age.

However, there is still a risk that problem gamblers could play with illegal non GamStop casinos which do not have a license from the British Gambling Authority.

Top Tips for Modifying Your Car in Dubai

If you’re considering customizing your car in the vibrant city of Dubai, navigating through the plethora of options can be as thrilling as it is daunting. To ensure your car modification journey is both successful and enjoyable, these top tips will guide you through the process, ensuring every decision enhances your ride in the best possible way.

Local Regulations for Car Modifications in Dubai

Understanding Dubai’s regulations is your starting block. The city has clear rules about what’s permissible, focusing on ensuring that modifications don’t compromise safety or public decorum. Before making any changes, familiarize yourself with these rules to avoid penalties or having to undo your hard work.

Set a Realistic Budget

Modifications can add up quickly. It’s crucial to set a budget that reflects both the initial cost of the parts and services, as well as any long-term maintenance or insurance implications. A clear budget will keep your project on track and prevent financial surprises down the road.

Choose the Right Modifications for Your Car’s Make and Model

Not all modifications suit all cars. What works for a sports car might not suit an SUV. Invest time in researching which modifications are recommended for your specific make and model by some Expert Car Mechanic in Dubai. This ensures that every change complements your vehicle’s design and performance, enhancing its characteristics rather than detracting from them.

Upgrade Performance Responsibly

While it’s tempting to focus on speed and power, responsible modifications consider the overall performance and safety. Upgrades should improve the car’s balance, handling, and braking to match its increased power, ensuring that your enhanced vehicle is not just fast, but also safe and enjoyable to drive.

Balance Aesthetics and Functionality

A visually stunning car that’s a joy to drive strikes the perfect balance. Your modifications should add to the car’s beauty without compromising its performance or comfort. This balance ensures that your car turns heads for all the right reasons, both when it’s stationary and when it’s in motion.

Regular Maintenance and Checks

Modifications might change how you maintain your car. Adhere to a tailored maintenance schedule to keep every new component in top condition. Regular checks ensure that your modifications deliver the expected performance and help in spotting potential issues early.

Consider Resale Value

Think ahead to potential resale. Highly personalized or unconventional modifications might not appeal to every buyer. If maintaining a high resale value is important to you, opt for popular modifications or those that can be easily reversed.

Stay Informed about the Latest Trends

The car modification scene is dynamic, with new trends and technologies constantly emerging. Staying informed helps you make choices that are not just great today but will remain impressive and functional in the future.

Safety First

Never compromise on safety. Every modification should meet or exceed the safety standards of the original components. This ensures that your car protects you as reliably as it did the day it left the showroom.

Shisha Safety – Tips for a Safe and Enjoyable Smoking Experience

Published

shisha 1423813 1280

In recent years, the allure of shisha smoking has grown immensely, with lounges and cafes offering this social pastime to enthusiasts worldwide. However, amidst the enjoyment, ensuring safety remains paramount for a truly satisfying experience. In this guide, we delve into essential tips and precautions to make your shisha sessions both safe and enjoyable.

pastedGraphic.png

What Is Shisha?

Shisha is like a special pipe for smoking flavored tobacco. It’s also called a hookah or water pipe. People use it in social settings to relax and enjoy different flavors. Shisha has a few parts: a bowl where you put the flavored tobacco, a body filled with water, a hose, and a mouthpiece. To smoke it, you light charcoal and put it on top of the tobacco.

When you inhale through the hose, the smoke goes through the water and into your mouth. The water makes the smoke cooler and smoother. Shisha comes in lots of flavors, like fruit or mint. It’s fun to try different flavors with friends, but remember, smoking shisha can still be bad for your health, so it’s important to be careful.

Why Choose Shisha On Wheels

Potential Risks

Contrary to common misconceptions, shisha smoking poses various health risks that smokers should be aware of. Despite the pleasant aroma and social ambiance, indulging in shisha sessions can have adverse effects on both short-term and long-term health. Understanding these risks is crucial for making informed decisions about shisha consumption. Here are some of the potential hazards associated with shisha smoking:

  • Nicotine Addiction: Shisha tobacco contains nicotine, a highly addictive substance. Regular shisha smokers can develop a dependence on nicotine, leading to withdrawal symptoms when attempting to quit.
  • Respiratory Issues: The inhalation of shisha smoke can irritate the respiratory system, leading to coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. Prolonged exposure to shisha smoke may contribute to the development of respiratory conditions such as bronchitis and asthma.
  • Cardiovascular Disease: Shisha smoking has been linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart disease and stroke. The toxins in shisha smoke can cause damage to blood vessels, leading to the narrowing of arteries and decreased blood flow to vital organs.
  • Cancer Risk: Shisha smoke contains numerous carcinogens and toxic chemicals that can increase the risk of various cancers, including lung cancer, oral cancer, and esophageal cancer. Prolonged exposure to these harmful substances can significantly elevate the likelihood of developing cancerous growths.
  • Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: The combustion process involved in shisha smoking produces carbon monoxide, a colorless and odorless gas that can be deadly in high concentrations. In poorly ventilated spaces, shisha smokers may be at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, leading to symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, and even death in severe cases.
  • Infectious Diseases: Sharing shisha mouthpieces or hoses can facilitate the transmission of infectious diseases such as colds, flu, and even more serious illnesses like tuberculosis or hepatitis. Poor hygiene practices and inadequate cleaning of equipment can increase the likelihood of spreading pathogens among users.
  • Adverse Effects on Pregnancy: Pregnant women who smoke shisha may expose themselves and their unborn babies to harmful toxins, potentially leading to complications such as low birth weight, premature birth, and developmental issues.
  • Secondhand Smoke Exposure: Non-smokers exposed to shisha smoke in indoor settings or enclosed spaces may inhale secondhand smoke, putting them at risk of the same health hazards as active smokers. Children, pregnant women, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of secondhand smoke.

pastedGraphic_2.png

By acknowledging these potential risks, individuals can make informed choices regarding shisha smoking and take proactive measures to protect their health and well-being. Implementing safety precautions and practicing moderation can help mitigate the negative impact of shisha consumption on both personal health and public health.

Tips for Safe Shisha Smoking

Enjoying shisha safely starts with knowing what to do for setting up own shisha lounge at home. In this guide, we’ll share some easy tips for smoking shisha safely. We’ll cover things like choosing good equipment and knowing when to stop. With these tips, you can enjoy your shisha knowing you’re doing it the right way.

Quality Equipment:

Invest in high-quality, clean equipment to ensure a safe smoking experience. Choose reputable brands known for their durable and well-crafted hookahs. Regularly clean your hookah and accessories to prevent the buildup of harmful residues.

Proper Setup:

Follow proper setup procedures to optimize airflow and heat distribution. Start by filling the base with water to the appropriate level, ensuring it covers the down stem. Place the bowl securely on top and pack it with fresh tobacco. Position the charcoal evenly on the foil or screen, allowing for consistent heat distribution.

Choose Quality Tobacco:

Opt for premium shisha tobacco from trusted sources to avoid potential health risks associated with counterfeit or expired products. Fresh, high-quality tobacco enhances the flavor and reduces the likelihood of adverse effects.

Hygiene Practices:

Maintain strict hygiene standards to prevent contamination and ensure a clean smoking experience. Regularly clean the hookah, including the base, stem, and hose, using mild soap and water. Disinfect mouthpieces between uses to minimize the risk of spreading germs.

Moderation:
