Give Ghana 2011, a philanthropic movement, is determined to bring joy and happiness to random people on the streets of Accra this Christmas Eve. Two editions of Give Ghana projects have already taken place since Christmas last year.  The second edition took place on April,22 (Good Friday) and with the help of social media and personal calls to individuals, donations were collected, and Give Ghana volunteers were able to feed and clothe approximately 1000 poor and needy people in Nima, Kanda, Adabraka, National Theatre Area, etc., on both occasions.

Some of the items distributed included: Food, water, clothing, shoes, biscuits, etc.  Patrons and volunteers of this event have prided themselves in the transparent nature in which donations have been handled, and this has continued through each edition of the Give Ghana project.

Miss Malaika Ghana 2010 Ama Nettey has joined the Give Ghana 2011 project as a volunteer, and in a statement, explained what the act of giving means to her. ‘Christmas is about giving; let’s bring joy to the world of the needy! A gift in this season is a double favour to the needy.’  Several other celebrity names have aligned themselves to this worthy cause, and have used their platform to solicit for funds and donations. This would not be the first time that celebrities have been part of the project. Miss Ghana 2010 Stephanie Karikari (Winner of Miss World 2011 Beauty With A Purpose) joined the Give Ghana Good Friday edition, as a volunteer, and it was an uplifting experience for all.

The 2011 Christmas edition of the Give Ghana Project has stirred up the relevance of giving in people through social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Youtube. Individuals from all facets of life have pledged time, money, clothes and use of their cars, for the event. Give Ghana 2011 Project were contacted by three Doctors who also pledged time to join the Volunteers and also offer as much medical advice as they can for the needy on the streets, especially the nursing mothers and the aged. Project Coordinators for this event have been interviewed by some media houses including E-TV, YFM, and Viasat One, and more media houses have expressed mass interest in our cause. Morning Show Host of E-TV, Rashida, even went ahead to offer to put a basket on the table during her show, and will continue to garner support and donations from her viewers for the Give Ghana project. This kind gesture has also been duplicated by the hosts of The One Show on Viasat One, Jocelyn and PY.

Individuals and corporate bodies who would still like to donate money, clothes, food items, children’s toys/books are welcome to do so from now until the 23rd of December, 2011.
