Her Sound 2.0: Her Sound Nigeria Reinforces Digitalization of the Music Industry with Google

Her Sound Nigeria successfully concluded its second edition, a two-day event held in Lagos on September 28th and 29th. The event brought together 30 talented female artists from across Nigeria to receive mentorship and training from music industry experts.

This year’s edition, in partnership with Google, aimed to leverage technology to empower female artists and foster innovation in the Nigerian music scene. Through masterclasses, panel discussions, and networking opportunities, participants gained valuable insights into various aspects of the music industry, including music pitching, marketing, branding, intellectual property, and digitalization.

In her opening remarks at Her Sound 2.0, Convener Cheche Smith expressed her excitement about the program’s second edition. She emphasized her passion for supporting female music creatives in Nigeria, particularly given the underrepresentation of women in the industry. Smith encouraged the selected participants to actively engage with industry professionals and apply the knowledge gained to their careers. She reaffirmed Her Sound’s commitment to providing a supportive community for female musicians and fostering their professional growth. 

Renowned industry figures such as Oluwatosin James Afuwape, Marketing & Artist Relations Manager, Boomplay; Joey Akan, Music Journalist/Founding Editor in chief, Afrobeats Intelligence Podcast; Lucklyn Audu, Head Consultant, Grey-Shell Consulting Limited and Adaoha Njemanze, Principal Consultant, NOVVA Media & Communications shared their expertise with the participants, providing practical guidance and mentorship. Additionally, a panel discussion featuring Yewande Arigbabu, A/R, Mavin Records/UMG;  Ayomide Tayo, Nigerian Pop Culture Curator; Amanda Uzoagba, Head of Licensing West Africa, Mdundo; Eclipse Nkasi, Africa’s  First AI Powered Album Creator and Joey Akan explored the impact of digitalization on the music industry.

Legendary rapper, actor, and businessman Illbliss made a guest appearance at Her Sound 2.0, sharing his valuable insights with the participants. He emphasized the importance of authenticity in the music industry and stressed the need for consistent hard work to achieve success. Illbliss’s advice provided valuable guidance for the aspiring female musicians. 

Afro-dance queen Niniola made a surprise appearance during the Her Sound 2.0 boot camp session. She encouraged the participants to continue striving for excellence and take advantage of the support the Her Sound platform offers. Niniola’s words of encouragement undoubtedly motivated the aspiring female creatives.
