I am winning an Oscar in the next five years – Ama K Abebrese

Ghanaian movie producer and actress, Ama K. Abebrese has prophesied that she will be the first Ghanaian to win an Oscar in the next five years.

Speaking in an interview with Noella Kharyne Yalley on JoyNew’s ‘Xclusives’ show, the award-winning actress said the possibility of a Ghanaian winning an OSCARS is high.

“There are times and seasons. However, do not be surprised if an African, a Ghanaian win an Oscar,” she said.

Ama K Abebrese also added that given the international success Ghanaians in the diaspora are achieving in the film industry, she is confident that a Ghanaian will win the prestigious award.

“It is going to happen. I am going to win an Oscar. Until it’s done, some people will not believe it,” she stressed.

She added:

“Rocky Dawuni was nominated for a Grammy; other Ghanaians have also been nominated; Wizkid got nominated and won; Burna Boy also won so the truth is Africans, Ghanaians, it is possible.
“I just realized something with film – the business of film is not like music at the moment. When that changes, it will get to a point where people will start talking about it,” 

Ama K Abebrese has won over 10 local and international film awards during her acting career.

For the first time since the Academy Awards’ inception, Ghana submitted a film for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film in 2019.

The United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences bestows the award on a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue.

Ghana selected Kwabena Gyansah’s ‘Azali’ as its entry for the international feature film category at the 2020 Academy Awards. However, the film did not make the final list of nominees.
