Co-founder of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, Jack Ma has described his visit to Ghana as the most important one yet in Africa. He made the remark in his welcome address at the African Netpreneur Conference in Accra.

He said “This is my fourth trip to Africa and this is the most important trip for me because I have realised that through this trip, I can really do something real for Africa, African entrepreneurs and African young people…”

According to him, while governments will be responsible for administering the African Continental Free Trade Agreement which has a target starting date of July, business leaders will have to find practical ways on how to connect consumers in disparate markets.

“Most people see Africa today, they say there is no e-commerce, no logistics, no payment. To me it is so similar… Africa today is like China 15-20 years ago. Because we had nothing. That is the opportunity.” -Jack Ma said on entrepreneurship in Africa.

The Africa Netpreneur Prize Initiative is Jack Ma’s flagship entrepreneur program in Africa, seeking to support African entrepreneurs by awarding 10 entrepreneurs every year with a shared $1M grant over the next 10 years.
