Joshua Dwomoh gist us on his debut album ‘’After God’s Own Heart’’, walk with God, live performances and more

With his debut 11-track live album ‘’After God’s Own Heart’’ finally out following the release of its ear-catching lead single ‘Adonai’, we engage the Ontario-based Ghanaian Gospel singer-songwriter in a tête-à-tête interview as he details the making of the record, his favorites off it and the journey so far in Canada’s music arena, etc.

Joshua Dwomoh (pronounced ‘Ju-Moh’) gift for music had always been recognized and received well through song covers he would share on social media, wedding solos along with occasional local community gigs and performances. However, it was the passion and oil he carried when ushering God’s presence which won the hearts and support of his community and beyond.

After years of experimenting in the secular side and a near-death experience, Joshua decided to dedicate his life and gift to serving Jesus – and he hasn’t looked back since. Since then, he has traveled and ministered in various parts of Canada and the United States, as well as given opportunities to minister alongside international gospel icons such as Joe Mettle, Blessing Ali and Diana Hamilton as well as Ghanaian music legends, Francis Adjei, Kwaku Gyasi and Nii Okai.

• Thank you for making time with us minister Joshua. Your first album ‘’After God’s Own Heart’’ is now a reality. How has the journey to it been so far? Any favorites?

Thank you for taking the time to meet with me as well! Many do not get the chance to share their story so I count myself as privileged to be given this opportunity. I could not have asked for anything more or less in my journey. I believe that everything with this project has happened as God intended. Truth be told, I had wanted to put this album out 4 or 5 years ago. The songs and arrangements you are hearing today have actually been tucked away for a while. As humans, it’s easy to say it may have been money or resources or lack of a consistent team at the time. However, as a believer, I know that it simply was not God’s timing. I embrace the journey and all the success and obstacles that came with it. If anything, I’m most excited for what’s to come. As far as favourites go, I imagine when I start having children, I won’t have one specific favourite. So, I think I will treat my music the same. I will say the one that has the most plays in my playlist so far is ‘Sovereign God’.

• According to you, one of the album’s songs, ‘Aye’ was a remix of your 2016 release. Apparently, you’re not new to music as many Ghanaians might think. How long have you been active?

Not counting my time involved with music outside the genre, I’ve dedicated the last 7 years spreading the Gospel through music. As whole, I’ve been recording music over 10 years. Many in the community here in Canada are familiar with my work but I’m really excited that with the emergence of social media, we are able to introduce and reach my beloved home!

• You have performed alongside Ghanaian Gospel acts like Joe Mettle, Blessing Ali, Diana Hamilton, the list goes on. Any collaborations yet or they are in the works?

On the album I featured Elvis Yeboah, a gifted and seasoned psalmist here in Canada. There is a collaboration locked for the next single that I can’t wait to share with everyone at the right time. A brother of mine here in Canada, Samuel Amankwah, is also another collaboration that’s in the works. One area that’s uncommon in my catalog is collaborations so it’s definitely a priority in my future releases. Some names I would definitely love to work with include MOG Music, Kofi Owusu Peprah and Kofi Kinataa. Also looking forward to working with Kaywa.

• Minister Joshua, when will Ghanaians in the motherland get to be blessed with live ministration from you?

It’s been a dream of mine for years. I’ve been away from Ghana for so long. How long? I won’t disclose. However, I’ve always shared with friends, family and supporters that when you see that I’ve released my debut album, know that I’m making arrangement to come to Ghana. That being said, you can expect me to be in Ghana in 2022.

• Any closing thoughts for our readers before you go? In light of your debut album and walk with God so far.

For all readers, I pray that this album and my story serves as a reminder that with God, anything can be done. As long as you lean on him and not your own strength or understanding, there is no limit to the things you can do. Along the way, many people tried to discourage the vision I had. A live recording in our community here in Toronto had not been done and released since Francis Agyei ‘God You Are So Good’ way back in the 90s. Yet, here we are with an album that Ghanaians here and in the diaspora can be proud of. There is no way to limit a limitless God.
