Popular Ghanaian satirist and talk show host, Kwaku Sintim-Misa popularly known as KSM, has revealed in an exclusive interview with Joy News that he has spent the last year battling prostate cancer.

“I’ve been through a battle with prostate cancer in the last year and to summarise it all up, I was in the US, and I actually had to go through prostatectomy; that’s a very radical surgery to get rid of your entire prostrate,” he stated.

KSM reveals his diagnosis of prostate cancer came as a shock to him as he’d been living a healthy life, or so he thought and was free of any symptoms.

“And it started when a friend of mine told me he was now working with the American Rejuvenation Centre, so he wants me to come and do a check-up; come and take your PSA, let’s take your testosterone and I kept stalling. So, at one point I said okay I’ll go, like I’m doing him a favour. Then when I did the check-up, the guy said actually your PSA levels are very very high, and I’m not comfortable with your PSA level. I knew they were going high but honestly, I feel well, every morning I go on my walks or jogging, I do at least every morning at least 5k walking, everyday,” he explained.

The award-winning show host reveals it took a little probing before he finally succumbed and went in for a test .

“So, when they said come for the test, I said I’m okay. So, I did go for the test and the doctor said well the PSA levels are uncomfortably high and when it gets to that high, I personally I would like to do a biopsy to make sure that not only do you have an enlarged prostrate but there are other issues related; it could be cancerous,” he added.

“So, to cut the long story short, I did my biopsy when I went to see her (his daughter) in the US, and we had a meeting with the doctor and the doctor says yes you have done the biopsy not only do you have an enlarged prostate, but you do have cancer,” he continued.

KSM’s experience with the disease has prompted him to share his story and give out caution to all, especially the youth to be mindful of their health and go for regular medical check-ups because in his case;

“I didn’t have any symptoms”. And there is actually a difference between being fit and healthy which he didn’t know before but now knows better.
