Listen UP: Paapa – Write for me

Published

on

Paapa of Skillions Records delivers a totally new sound and lyrical approach on his new release ‘Write for me’ – the lead single from his upcoming sophomore album curiously titled ‘Songs for Kukua’. Having only launched his musical career a year ago with the Christian hiphop album ‘Solar’, Paapa is without a doubt a music maverick who refuses to fit into a genre. In contrast to much of Solar, the self-produced ‘Write for me’ has a tamer sound and more personal lyricism that has won the hearts of both fans and musicians alike. He sings a painful conversation between two characters, Kwaku and Kukua, who are about to be separated because of Kwaku’s imminent departure to the ‘dollarship’. Paapa writes about the characters on his blog saying “Who is Kukua? Though the songs themselves should tell, 6th March 1957 (day of Ghana’s Independence) was a Wednesday. Ghana is Kukua. Kwaku, as many of you know, is one of my names. Kwaku’s character, though quite fictional, borrows a lot from my personal life”. We are eagerly looking forward to the 6th March release of his sophomore album, ‘Songs for Kukua’. If the lead single is anything to go by, the full album promises to be introspective, soulful and irreducibly musical.
