Newcomer, Myron to perform at Samini/Mavado concert

Ghanaian reggae/dancehall newcomer, Myron is set to have perhaps his biggest exposure yet as one of the opening acts for the Mavado/Samini Concert slated for the Accra Sports Stadium, October 1.

“Though I have performed at a couple of shows including Miss Osu, High School Honors and Praye Honeho and P.Y’s birthday bash, I see the MTN Fantasy Jam as my outdooring. Performing a stage that would have dancehall giant, Mavado and African dancehall king, Samini at the national stadium is a dream way to launch a career”, says the excited singer.

21 year old, Myron Otoo started writing songs when he was 12. According to him, he used to make music with my notes when he was in JSS to make it easier for him to memorize them but he took music a little serious when he was in St. Peters’ Secondary School. His diverse music influences include Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Lil Wayne, Iwan, Alicia Keys, Kwabena Kwabena, Daddy Lumba, Amakye Dede, Bandana and Sean Paul.

The Bachelor of Arts undergraduate of the University of Ghana recounts his journey into music: “A couple of my friends and I started a music clique called S.O.E (School of Entertainment). We recorded a couple of demos that were hits among all the schools that were on the Kwahu Ridge and other schools in the Eastern Region. In Form 2, when teachers (NAGRAT) went on strike, I started a mock ‘radio station’ called Bonzy FM in my class and all the windows around our class were packed with people from other classes since the class couldn’t contain all the people that were eager each day to come hear me sing every single song on Samini’s second album, the two Bandana albums at the time and also perform a couple of songs I had written then and freestyled while my friend, Atu Osborn Selassie played on his desk with his cutlery”.

Myron gave up his dreams on music after earlier attempts to get his records on air proved futile. The will to stay on came when he followed his friend and now manager, to the Ghana Movie Awards last Christmas and he imagined seeing himself on the stage. He felt he could do what every single artist that performed on the night came to do. So he hit the studio again and recorded a couple of songs including his first single, ‘Run 2 Ur Man’.  His second single, ‘Dat tin (that thing)’ will also hit the airwaves from October 3.  A video for his first single is also in the works.
