With the world’s attention on the British capital, Virgin Atlantic Airways has launched a free iPhone app that brings London to life with a new City guide, featuring itineraries from famous Londoners and the best places to eat, drink and sleep, just in time for global sports fans arriving into London. Launched today in the iTunes store, the free download is called ‘Virgin Atlantic’s London City Guide.’ It features exclusive interviews with famous Londoners, little-known facts and lists such as ‘The top ten films featuring London.’ There are fashion tips for getting the ‘London look’, and information on the best out-of-London destinations if you’d like a weekend away. Along with a calendar to help users keep track sporting activities across the city, the app features page after page of information when you’re in London. The Virgin Atlantic London City Guide offers augmented reality views when you’re on the ground – point your phone at an iconic site, and a computer-generated overlay will tell you more about what’s around you. Nick Taylor; country manager in Ghana commented: “When you travel, nothing beats a local’s opinion. We wanted to share Virgin Atlantic’s favourite places in the UK’s capital with our passengers for free to make the most of their visit. But rather than just offering a traditional guide book’s top picks, we’ve curated our own, and allow users to pick places and events they’d like to add to their wish list. The app’s meant for visitors, but is also attracting Londoners looking to explore what’s going on where in their home city.” The Virgin Atlantic London City Guide is available for free now in the iTunes App Store, along with a general Virgin Atlantic app that allows passengers to check in, play games and track miles, and a Virgin Atlantic Trip Journal app that shares a traveller’s adventures across social media platforms in real time.]]>
