<![CDATA[There was drama in parliament on Thursday evening following the report that a minority member, Mahama Ayariga was guilty of contempt of the House in a bribery scandal. The committee’s report, which was laid before the House also recommended that Mr Ayariga is reprimanded by the Speaker of the House and offer an “unqualified apology”.
But an unhappy Ayariga who appeared dissatisfied with the work of the committee, reluctantly rendered the apology, saying: “Mr. Speaker, if you say I should apologize, I have apologized.” The way the apology went did not go down well with the majority but the minority appeared satisfied with the apology. A number of them were incensed, cursing and throwing their fingers about in the air in anger. The Speaker of Parliament had to defer his ruling on the matter.
However, right after the Speaker had vacated his seat, there was total chaos in the chamber as some members of both sides were captured on national TV in a near-brawl. It took the intervention of some MPs to calm tempers as the legislator for Ningo Prampram was seen exchanging words with members of the opposite side.
