<![CDATA[In commemoration of the World AIDS Day 2012 (#WAD2012) Health And Life Africa Healthy-living Initiative (HALA) in collaboration with some Nigerian Celebrities (Dipp, IllBliss, Wanawana & Rexx Pincode) made a video to create awareness on the advancements that have been made in the fight against HIV/AIDS. This video is aimed at reducing the stigma attached to the disease and offer hope and encouragement to People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).
About thirty years ago, the discovery of the human immunodeficiency virus, HIV came packaged with the story of fear and hopelessness which largely incited stigmatization out of a fear of the unknown. A diagnosis of HIV even at its earliest stage still without symptoms bore the same weight as a death sentence.
Barely three decades later technological advancements have yielded Truvada (a HIV-prevention drug), 100% prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, ‘commonizing’ the virus to the point of a home-kit self HIV testing, etc and yet! Little improvement has been made in the area of #NoStigma for PLWHA or the disease entity.
The theme for World AIDS Day for 2011 – 2015 is “Getting to Zero: Zero new HIV infections. Zero deaths from AIDS-related illness. Zero discrimination”. The advancement gained so far, even though not sufficient, gives hope for so much more that can be done. We are the generation that can make it happen and that makes this buzz-worthy!
