Zach Lund named Ghana Bobsled/Skeleton Head Performance Director
He says the decision to join Team Ghana as head performance director was an easy one. “It’s not about the nation winning medals,” Lund said. “It’s about being with people who are there for the right reasons. The Olympics are about bringing people together.”Working with Team Ghana allows Lund to work with Akwasi Frimpong, Ghana’s first skeleton athlete, and just the country’s second winter Olympian. “He is more than a coach,” said Frimpong of the new coach. “He is a mentor and we are blessed to have him on board. In 2022, Team Ghana wants to do more than just participate. We want to be competitive and Olympic level direction is necessary.” Lund says he is inspired working with Frimpong and the goal is to get him onto the Olympic podium and to grow the sport in Ghana. He says Frimpong’s motivation, spirit and drive are what makes the Olympics so special and why it will be great working with him. “It’s about the small nations being on the same playing field with the larger nations, competing against them,” says Lund. “That’s what I love about the Olympics.” Bobsled and Skeleton Federation – Ghana founded July 5, 2016a is an associated member of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF).
