How Oracle, Google, and OpenAI are Shaping the Future

Published

on

Oracle Corporation is one of the world’s largest software and cloud services companies. Its development of cloud services is a key driver of its revenue growth. Cloud technologies are becoming increasingly popular among corporate clients as they reduce IT infrastructure costs and improve business process efficiency. Oracle actively invests in cloud solutions and offers customers a wide range of services, contributing to the company’s revenue growth.

Additionally, Oracle successfully monetizes license support for its software. The company provides high-quality customer support, increasing loyalty and keeping clients on the Oracle platform.

A significant factor in Oracle’s success is its collaboration with major technology companies such as Google and OpenAI. The partnership with Google allows Oracle to integrate its cloud services with the Google Cloud platform, expanding access to its products and increasing its market presence. The cooperation with OpenAI, especially with the recent updates to ChatGPT, enables Oracle to enhance its artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities, which are increasingly important for corporate clients. This collaboration opens up new opportunities for developing and implementing advanced artificial intelligence technologies across various industries. The companies plan to combine their efforts in machine learning, business process automation, and creating more intelligent solutions for their customers, such as cloud access services or automated trading on exchanges.

Moreover, the cooperation between Oracle, Google, and OpenAI aims to develop new artificial intelligence technologies in healthcare, finance, and other industries. This will allow the creation of innovative solutions that can improve people’s lives and increase enterprise efficiency.

On June 13, the company reported its results for the fourth quarter and the entire 2024 fiscal year, which ended May 31, 2024. Oracle’s profit and revenue for the quarter were below Wall Street forecasts. Non-GAAP adjusted earnings per share for the third quarter of fiscal 2024 were $1.63 on revenue of $14.3 billion, down 3% from the previous year and below Wall Street estimates of $14.55 billion in revenue and adjusted earnings of $1.65 per share. GAAP net income for the quarter was $3.14 billion, or $1.11 per share, compared to $3.32 billion, or $1.19 per share, in the same quarter of fiscal year 2023.

Meanwhile, equipment sales fell by 1% year-on-year to $842 million. Cloud infrastructure revenue amounted to $2.0 billion, which is 42% higher year-on-year but represents a slowdown in growth compared to the previous quarter, where the growth rate was 49%. In total, Oracle’s revenue for the 2024 fiscal year was $52.96 billion, up 6% from the previous year. The company’s net profit increased by 23% year-on-year to $10.47 billion. Cloud services and license support brought in $10.23 billion, a 9% increase year-over-year. Revenue from licensing cloud and on-premises products was $1.84 billion, a 15% decrease year-on-year. Service revenue was $1.37 billion, a 6% decline compared to last year.

Overall, Oracle’s development prospects are favorable. The company will continue investing in cloud technologies, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, enabling it to maintain its industry leadership and boost profits. In the first quarter of fiscal year 2025, the company expects adjusted earnings of $1.31 to $1.35 per share and revenue growth of 5% to 7%.

Oracle is already making a significant impact in the information technology cloud sector, offering a wide range of services and products for corporate clients. The company sets quality standards in cloud solutions and stimulates market competition. A stock screener can help investors identify Oracle’s potential by comparing its financial performance with industry benchmarks.

However, it is important to note that sometimes investor interest in Oracle may exceed the company’s actual performance. This can lead to stock overvaluation and increased long-term risks for investors. The price has already reached an all-time high. The primary support level for any correction is $125. The price is in an uptrend, so a breakdown of the trend line would be highly unfavorable for bullish investors.

Don’t fall for it: How to spot social media job scams a mile away

Published

on

With over 32% of South Africans struggling to find jobs , it is no wonder that scams targeting job seekers are becoming more common. “Cybercriminals are always evolving their tricks to match the latest trends,” asserts Anna Collard, SVP Content Strategy and Evangelist at KnowBe4 AFRICA . “As job-searches on social media grow , so does the potential for recruitment-related fraud.”

Types of recruitment scams

There are two types of recruitment scams, although they all have the same aim: conning you into giving them money or your personal details. The first kind involves impersonation, in which fraudsters pose as legitimate recruiters and reach out to you via WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, LinkedIn or email. “They may use stolen logos and profile pictures of very attractive people to lure you into thinking they’re from an HR department or recruitment firm,” explains Collard.

Recently, there have been scams where fraudsters posed as the Department of Employment and Labour to advertise fake job opportunities. In these incidents (https://apo-opa.co/4cscWan), individuals seeking jobs were required to pay R250 upfront for supposed “background checks” at PEP stores. Similarly, job seekers from the North-West province fell victim (https://apo-opa.co/4cscWqT) to a scheme where they paid for transportation to an interview and half-day training in Centurion, only to find out that the job offers were non-existent.

The second type of scam involves fake job postings. Using legitimate job boards, scammers post fake job offers to get your personal information. “Facebook, with its broad user base, is particularly desirable for scammers,” comments Collard. “They exploit the platform’s features, like Groups and Marketplace, to post fake job listings and approach potential victims.”

When you are hunting for a job, how can you stay safe? Here are three clear indicators that the job posting or recruitment drive could be a scam.

  1. Unsolicited offers and unprofessional communication

“Beware of unsolicited job offers, especially if you didn’t apply for them,” advises Collard. Legitimate employers follow a formal recruitment process and will not haphazardly reach out on social media.

Another red flag is unprofessional communication. Spelling errors, poor grammar, an international phone number on WhatsApp, or an email address from Gmail or Yahoo should make you take a step back.

  1. Remote work that pays well

Another warning bell is that the job offer is “fully remote,” and offers very attractive remuneration. “Often this is a sign that it’s a scam,” cautions Collard, “as criminals know that most people want to work from home. Also, if the salary sounds astronomical for the particular position, be wary.” Rather, research what the salary range of similar positions is before you respond to tempting job offers. “It’s also better to verify the job offer is real by contacting the company directly,” she says.

  1. Requests for payment or your info

However, the most significant warning sign is when they ask for payment for application fees, training courses, or background checks. As per the Employment Services Act, no one can charge jobseekers for employment services. “If you are asked to pay anything for your recruitment, it is a clear scam,” Collard emphasises.

Similarly, legitimate employers will not ask for your sensitive personal information, such as your ID number or bank account details, until a very advanced stage of the recruitment process. “This information is usually only requested after a job offer has been extended,” explains Collard.

To ensure your safety during your job search, it is important to take precautions. Trust your instincts and be cautious. As Collard advises, “Pay attention to warning signs such as unsolicited job offers, requests to download links, and demands for payment or personal information.” By maintaining a healthy level of scepticism and taking proactive steps to verify the legitimacy of job offers and recruiters, you can significantly reduce the risk of falling victim to these scams. And remember, anything that sounds or looks too good to be true, most likely isn’t.

Survaiva Benjamin Donkor’s ‘The Black Secret’ announced as winner of the Africa region

Johnnie Walker, the world’s number one Scotch Whisky, has announced the winners of its Black Label Global Bartender Challenge, with Ghanaian bartender, Survaiva Benjamin Donkor, Senior Bartender at Tribeca Restaurant, winning an exclusive three-night immersive Black Label experience in Scotland, the home of Johnnie Walker. Bartenders from across the world were invited to get creative and share an Instagram reel of their own signature Johnnie Walker Black Label cocktail, explaining why the blended Scotch whisky works perfectly in the serve.

With entries from over forty countries, Survaiva Benjamin Donkor’s serve was selected as a winner from Africa, with only seven other winners selected from across the globe.

The trip, which is due to take place across the Burns Night weekend in January 2025, will offer the winners the opportunity to enjoy a traditional Burns Night celebration in a truly authentic way, as well as experiences including a visit to the Diageo Archive; a behind-the-scenes distillery tour; a deconstructed tasting of Johnnie Walker Black Label with Dr Emma Walker, Johnnie Walker Master Blender; and the opportunity to enjoy an array of experiences throughout the Johnnie Walker Brand home: Johnnie Walker Princes Street.

The winners were selected by Tim Philips-Johansson, Johnnie Walker Global Brand Ambassador and Jan Šebek, the winner of the Johnnie Walker challenge at Diageo World Class 2023. Entries were shortlisted and recreated by the judges during a tasting session in Amsterdam to determine which entries used Johnnie Walker Black label in the most exciting yet balanced way.

Survaiva Benjamin Donkor said: ‘I am incredibly grateful for the honour of being selected as one of the winners of the Johnnie Walker Black Label Bartender Challenge. It is truly humbling and I want to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone involved. This achievement is for Africa, and I know my motherland is very proud of me. It has always been my dream to win a global competition like this and words alone cannot express how I feel now’.

Johnnie Walker Global Brand Ambassador Tim Phillips-Johansson said: ‘Survaiva’s fruit-forward cocktail impressed us, particularly the way in which the crème de cassis complemented the Johnnie Walker Black Label.  Coconut with pineapple is a classic combination for a reason and we really enjoyed how Survaiva took these flavours and twisted them to create his own signature serve’.

The initiative was designed to shine a light on Johnnie Walker Black Label’s liquid credentials and give back to those who have supported the award-winning blended Scotch whisky within the bartender community.

Johnnie Walker Black Label was first created over 100 years ago by the Walker family who were not content with the one-note flavours and inconsistent whiskies of their day. They took bold steps to make a significantly better Scotch Whisky – expertly blended to create the rich, iconic flavour that is still made today.   Johnnie Walker Black Label takes the very best whiskies from the Four Corners of Scotland, each expressing the aromas and tastes typical of that region, to create a beautifully balanced liquid celebrated worldwide.
