Michael Nana-Sasu, a 27 year old Exploratory Geologist working with Pelangio Exploration Inc., a Junior Gold exploration company has set up an Educational Fund for the people of Adansi Brofoyedru in the Adansi north district of the Ashanti region. Michael donated a thousand cedi cheque to the Presbyterian Church in the community and insisted it be used as seed money for an Educational Fund. Catechist Emmanuel Frimpong and the Educational Fund committee organized for the Fund to be lunched on the 2nd of September 2012 so as to raise more funds. Monies from the Fund will be used to organize special weekend and vacation classes for all the primary and JHS students of the community. Guided by the Theme “Education, The Key to a Successful Life” Rev Anthony Atobra, of the Fomena Presbyterian church, in his sermon admonished the congregation to invest in the education of their children now or cry for them in the future. He decried the high state of corruption and morale depravity in the nation. The former DCE of the area, Hon. Ameyaw, who sat in for Hon. K.T Hammond, Member of Parliament for the area (as chairman of the occasion) thanked Michael immensely for such a humane gesture and asked that the chiefs and people of Brofoyedru take full advantage of the opportunity and sustain the Fund. He seized the platform to campaign for his party, the NPP, by asking all to consider the free education policy as being preached by his aspirant. He pledged 500 cedi in support of the fund and told the congregation of many other social intervention packages available to them. Michael Nana-Sasu in his address thanked the leadership of the Church and the members of the Educational committee for doing so much work in a relatively short time to lunch the Fund. He inquired the people of Adansi Brofoyedru to inculcate good moral standards and character in the school children. He cautioned teachers and parents alike not only to train students to have high cognitiveabilities but most importantly to attainhigh emotional intelligence as some highly educated men and women of this country have used their intellect to swindle the nation over the years. He acknowledged how difficult times are and how expensive it is to educate children these days but said “Let anyone who thinks education is expensive try ignorance” The sitting District Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Lateef could not make it to the occasion. A representative of the PPP also demonstrated his commitment to the cause by donating customised Papa Kwesi Ndoum exercise books to be used by the students during their special weekend/vacation classes. Nana Kyei Brempong, The Reagent-Monsie, stool land Adansi Brofoyedru commended Nana-Sasu for such a great act and promised to use his outfit to monitor and sustain the Educational Fund. He pledged 500 cedi and promised to inform natives of the community abroad to come and support the Fund. In all, a total of about two thousand five hundred cedi(including yet being retrieved pledges) was attained from the fund raising. Rev. James Addae of the Brofoyedru Methodist church blessed the congregation.]]>
