50 Cent cancels club appearance after boxer’s defeat
Rapper 50 Cent nixed a performance in Meridan, Connecticut after the loss of boxer Billy Dib, whom the rapper promotes through his new company SMS Promotions. The Australian-born boxer lost his IBF world featherweight championship to unbeaten Russian Evgeny Gradovich, during a Friday night (March 1) fight at the Foxwoods Resort Casino. Dib, 27, lost a 12-round split decision in a bloody battle that left him with a severe cut above his right eye, as well as a cut on the left side of his head, from an elbow. 50 Cent, who walked into the ring with Billy Dib and performed his single “New Day,” decided to cancel an after party at Club Sinergee. The rapper was supposed to make the high-profile appearance after the boxing match, which resulted in police boosting their security in the area. Club Sinergee owners were disappointed, but claimed that 50 Cent was in the hospital, as Billy Dib was being treated for his injuries. “I don’t want to belittle that situation, but I still would’ve made an effort to come,” said Michael Carusone, who thank the disappointed fans for being “understanding.” The owners still considered the evening a success, attracting well over 500 people to Club Sinergee, which holds about 700 in total.]]>
