agya kooThe Jury of the upcoming Ghana Movie Awards has officially announced that ‘Ama Ghan’a, a local language (Twi) movie directed by Frank Gharbin is the single movie that topped the nominations list released a couple of weeks ago. The movie which stars Agya Koo, Clement Bonney aka Mr. Beautiful, Vivian Jill among others got 14 nominations ahead of Shirley Frimpong Manso’s A Sting In A Tale which also had 13 nominations.  Leila Djansi’s Sinking Sand followed closely with 12 nominations.

In all, there were 33 movies with 134 nominations in 25 categories. ‘Sinking Sands’ would have led the entire selection but it wasn’t nominated in categories such as Best Actor, Cinematography, Editing, Make-up, and Effects because those aspects of its production were headed by non-Ghanaians.

Hero Production’s movie, ‘The Game’, directed by Frank Raja and Shirley’s ‘Checkmate,’ came next with 10 nominations each, while Ghana’s youngest director, Kobi Rana’s, ‘Kiss Me If You Can,’ also followed with 6 nominations. Leila’s ‘I Sing of Well’ was next with 5 nominations as well as Venus Film’s ‘The Beast.’

Below is the full list of movies and nomination: [NB: E.L. and L.L refer to English Language and Local Language respectively]
