Dr. Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), has emphatically stated that he and his deputies will not resign from their positions despite demands from Ghana’s biggest opposition party and Minority caucus in parliament, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking in a candid interview with international business website, Central Banking, the governor dismissed the recent calls for his resignation by the NDC, describing the #OccupyBoGProtest on Tuesday, October 3 in Accra as “completely unnecessary.”

Addison emphasized that neither he nor his deputies have any intention of leaving their positions, adding that the Minority have alternative channels to address their grievances. He also rejected the claims that he printed money to finance the lavish lifestyle of the ruling government.

“The Minority in parliament have many channels to channel their grievances in civilised societies, not through demonstrations in the streets as hooligans. The demostration is completely unnecessary,” Addison said in reference to the #OccupyBoGProtest.

The governor’s statement comes after the Minority in parliament and some Ghanaians on Tuesday took hostage the principal streets of Accra to stage a protest dubbed #OccupyBoG against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his two deputies on what they describe as poor fiscal policy by the Bank by calling on them to resign.

The Protest led by the opposition National Democratic Congress party leadership said the action of the central bank governor, Dr Addison has led to hyperinflation and high cost of living and wants him and his two deputies to step aside. The NDC during the protest also accused the BoG Governors of overprinting money to fund the government’s alleged profligacy which has led to economic hardship.
