People Of Equal Thoughts & Spirit is excited to announce that the much anticipated poetry event ALEWA: THE REBIRTH OF SPOKEN WORD & POETRY is returning with even more exciting packages. With two hours of poetry and spoken word performances backed by acoustic music at the plush Mensvic Grand Hotel which is one of Ghana’s newest and finest hotel nestled in the swanky suburb of East Legon. It is ideally located: a few miles from the University of Ghana, a few miles from the airport, and approximately 12 miles from Central business district featuring some of the finest artistes you can think of, it is sure to be a day of epic proportions. Date for this ALEWA has been confirmed for Saturday, August 31, 2013 with the show starting at 6:30 pm A notable addition to this edition of ALEWA includes Celebrities performing poetry and spoken word. Confirmed celebrities for this ALEWA includes Okyeame Kwame (Poet, Musician), Dr. Abeiku Santana (Celebrated Radio Presenter), Caroline Sampson (Radio Personality, Rapper, Poet), Jeremie Van Gaarshong of 4syte TV and Live FM Drive Talk Fame, XO_Senavoe (Poet, Musician) and Agnes Ntow, host of Yfm Room service and Viasat 1 entertainment reporter Additional confirmed artists and poets will be announced on the group’s website at www.peopleofequalthoughts.com . In addition, a ‘poelogue’ (dialogue poetry) conceptualize by Abdul Karim Hakib of Global Arts and Development Centre (GADEC) will be staged. This ‘poelogue’ is closely linked with the concept of a total theatre that hinges on the indigenous Ghanaian and African performance of oral traditions which will be presented in a verse form. By the end of the day, audience should be able to relook at their culture, re-examine their prejudices and resolve to be the ambassadors of the renaissance of African (Ghanaian) culture and identity. The works to be performed on this edition of ALEWA are written to the theme: ‘AFRICAN BELIEFS, CULTURE AND TRADITIONS which will be presented in 3D. 3-Dimensional in the sense that the 3 major aspects of ALEWA as a performing arts event: poetry, spoken word and drama will be explored.
