All you need to know about the University of Environment and Sustainable Development, Somanya

The University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) is a Public University situated at Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region. It was established under UESD Act, 2015 (Act 898) and inaugurated on the 5th of August, 2020 by President Akufo-Addo. It has Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson as the Vice-Chancellor. The UESD which is situated in a serene environment has the state of the art facilities. It has smart buildings, beautifully and strategically designed with modern architecture.

Vision: To be a leading University in the teaching, learning and dissemination of knowledge related to developments in environment and agro-business, and create knowledge through research for national development.

Mission: To train and produce graduates who are equipped with relevant knowledge and skills to be well-positioned as agents and partners in the identification and resolution of prevailing environmental and sustainable development challenges.

The UESD runs mainly Bachelor of Science programmes and is currently operating two of its five Schools: School of Sustainable Development (SSD) and School of Natural and Environmental Sciences (SNES). The Programmes on offer include:

The first batch of UESD students (pioneer students) was admitted in the 2020/2021 academic year. It is still admitting its second batch for the 2021/2022 academic year.
