American singer Stevie Wonder Receives Ghanaian Citizenship

Ghana’s President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has officially bestowed Ghanaian citizenship upon the renowned American singer and songwriter, Stevie Wonder.

 

The Grammy award-winning artiste, accompanied by his family, received this honor during a brief ceremony held at the Jubilee House on Monday, May 13, 2024.

In a post on social media, Kow Essuman, the legal counsel to President Akufo-Addo, congratulated the celebrated musician for embracing Ghanaian citizenship.

Expressing his delight at the recognition, the “Living for the City” hitmaker conveyed a sense of connection to Ghana, citing a deep-rooted feeling of lineage and belonging to the country.

 

The renowned singer shared his sentiments, stating, “I guess it’s just the lineage I felt Ghana, I felt my civilization was there and I was there where it began. So, I thank all of you so very much. I always say this is the beginning, (the best part of the rest of my life got to do God’s promised).”

With this gesture, Stevie Wonder now holds dual citizenship, proudly representing both the United States and Ghana. The occasion marks a significant milestone in the musician’s journey, symbolizing a meaningful connection to his ancestral roots and a profound appreciation for Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
