Coronavirus cases in Ghana rises to 19 total

Ghana has confirmed three more cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) bringing the total to 19 cases.

According to the Ghana Health Service, both cases were imported into the country. Two of the new cases were reported from the Greater Accra Region and the other in the Ashanti Region.

The latest infected persons are a 55-year-old Ghanaian woman resident of the United Kingdom who travelled to Ghana within the last two weeks; an 84-year-old Ghanaian lady also a resident of the United Kingdom who also came to Ghana within the past two weeks and a 27-year-old Chinese man who came to Ghana.

Meanwhile, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly has announced that markets in the Greater Accra Region will be closed on Monday, March 23, 2020 for a disinfection exercise.

“In line with the President’s directive on measures to contain and prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the country, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly with support from the Greater Accra Markets Association wishes to inform the general public that there will be a massive disinfection exercise across all public market centres within its jurisdiction. Towards this end, the markets will be closed down on 23rd March and reopen the next day for normal business to continue,” the statement read.
