The Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced controversial crossdresser, Idris Olarewaju Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, to six months imprisonment without the option of a fine for abusing the naira.

Justice Abimbola Awogboro stated that the judgment aimed to deter others from similar offenses. The ruling followed Bobrisky’s guilty plea to charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission regarding the abuse of the naira currency.

Before the sentencing, the judge inquired about Bobrisky’s gender, to which he promptly responded as a man. Despite Bobrisky’s plea for leniency, citing his social media influence, the judge reiterated that ignorance of the law was not an excuse. Bobrisky expressed regret for his actions and proposed using his platform to educate others on the consequences of similar offenses, hoping for a second chance to rectify his mistake.
