Jupitar who was speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s cosmopolitan mix show with Doreen Andoh made this statement whiles sharing his thought on the calls to support and promote the original Ghanaian music which many have identified as High-life. Although Jupitar is in support of the idea to promote mainly the Ghanaian music, he certify that High-life music is largely composed in Akan with foreign instruments so cannot be considered as Ghana’s main indigenous music. “Highlife is not Ghanaian music…Highlife music is Ashanti music,” Admitting to the fact that his genre of music, i.e Dance hall, cannot be considered as Ghanaian music as well. The General as he is also called further stated that there are traditional music played with local instruments in other parts of Ghana that are more indigenous than High-life. explaining that, apart from the Akan language in High-life music, many other elements in the music are adopted from non-indigenous sources.
