drifta platforms 011DStv Mobile’s innovative Drifta device which gives access to selected DStv channels on devices such as the iPod, iPad, iPhone or laptop and PC is now compatible with BlackBerry and Android smartphones in addition to the initial range of Windows and iOS devices.

The selected phones include the following devices running Android 2.1, 2.2 or 2.3: Sony Ericsson Play (R800i),  LG Optimus Black (LG P970), Motorola Defy (MB 525), HTC ChaCha,  HTC Desire, HTC Desire S, HTC Desire HD, HTC Wildfire S, Samsung Galaxy S (GT-I9000), Samsung Galaxy Tab 7″ (All Models),  and Samsung Galaxy S II (GT-I9100)

The BlackBerry choice includes the following devices running BlackBerry OS 5 or higher: BlackBerry Bold 9000, BlackBerry Bold 9700, BlackBerry Curve 8520, BlackBerry Curve 8900, and BlackBerry Curve 9300.

So, how does it work? The Drifta receives the DStv Mobile broadcast signal, known as Digital Video Broadcast Hand-held or DVB-H, and relaying this signal over WiFi to a range of WiFi-capable devices. It is, however, important to note that in order view the DStv Mobile services one does on need to be in a WiFi hot spot, but they must be in DVB-H signal coverage area. There is however a second type of Drifta that operates using USB port only.

While non-DStv subscribers can also purchase a Drifta and subscribe to one of three bouquets – the Free bouquet, the Mini and the Maxi bouquet, DStv Premium subscribers on the other and have access to the Maxi Plus bouquet at absolutely no additional charge after purchasing the Drifta hardware.

From as little as GHS 7.5 per month on the mini bouquet, Ghanaians can now enjoy local channels like GTV, and METRO TV on the move, as well as other favourites like Africa Magic Plus, Channel O, TRACE URBAN, CNN, Cartoon Network and BET. And for the sports fans, the maxi bouquet which offers SuperSport Blitz, 9 and 10 in addition to the channels mentioned earlier, for GHS 18 per month.  You can watch the Barclays Premier League on SS 10, and the Ghana Premier League on SS 9.
