Emmanuel Yawson won the fifth season of the Stars of the Future singing contest Saturday night at an exciting grand finale at the National Theatre, Accra. He beat Daniella Dankwah-Coffie, Wiyaala Noela, and Kwame Wiredu to second, third and fourth positions respectively after two rounds of competition.

The four finalists opened the show with a group performance of R Kelly’s ‘Sound of Victory’. Winner of season 4, Bertha later did two of her own songs before the first round of competition began.  For the first round, Daniella opened with Beyonce’s ‘Halo’. She was followed by Emmanuel with ‘Hero’ by Enrique Iglesias.  Kwame also performed Chris Brown’s ‘Crawl’ while Noella took on Shakira’s ‘Waka Waka’.

After the first round, there were back to back performances Dr Cryme, Zigi and a surprise appearance from Eazzy.  Round two was the round of own-compositions and the finalists performed songs that they had written by themselves.  Daniella performed her ‘Love Note’ produced by Kaywa, while Emmanuel did ‘It’s My Time’ produced by Richie. Kwame’s song was titled ‘She Dey Go’ and was produced by Jayso while Appietus produced Noella’s traditional song.

Before the winner was announced, third place winner of Stars of the Future season 1, Efya gave some delightful performances. Emmanuel won a recording contract and a brand new salon car Hyundai in addition to the Stars of the Future title.
