Females Must Develop Tough Skin To Be DJs —Ohemaa Woyeje

In the male-dominated world of DJs, women face unique challenges and prejudices. Ohemaa Woyeje, who is privately known as Adjoa Yeboah Kusi, a prominent female DJ and radio personality, understands this firsthand.

She believes that in order to succeed in this industry, females must develop tough skins.

According to the renowned radio presenter, alot of female DJs in the country are unable to successfully advance to the next level because they lack the confidence needed to promote their craft and tough skin for criticisms.

Woyeje emphasized the importance of resilience and self-confidence for aspiring female DJs. The music industry often perpetuates the stereotype that women are not as skilled or knowledgeable as their male counterparts when it comes to DJing. This bias can lead to discouragement and self-doubt among women pursuing their passion for music.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, she said;

“There are people who attack your personality as a female DJ. If you are not confident, you will be discouraged, but what you should do as a female DJ to keep going in this industry is to master your craft, develop a thick skin for all the criticisms, strive for excellence and watch society applaud your efforts.”

Adding that while society is slowly coming around to accept female DJs, it was important for women to solidify their position and craft with hard work and confidence to give them the opportunity to get the necessary traction.

“Initially it was difficult for people to accept female DJs becausethey felt it was the preserve of men, but now they are beginning toaccept the reality that women can and what we can do is to go allout in confidence, stay put and not allow ourselves to bediscouraged,” ohemaa hammered.
